1851 Black Powder Outlaw Revolver Replica & Stand

1851 Black Powder Outlaw Revolver Replica & Stand description

This offering is for a replica of the original Colt 1851Navy Revolver and display stand (new). The gun has realistic features but cannot be modified to fire actual bullets (please note orange plug on barrel end).

Although the revolver replica being sold is not a licensed Colt product, it follows the detail of the Colt manufactured .36 caliber revolvers that were common during and following the Civil War. The bronze tone metal is ornately etched in keeping with the period and the cylinder is stamped "US .36". Handles are plastic with wood grain finish.

According to Wikipedia, the name of "Colt 1851 Navy" was coined by collectors. The more common name of "Navy Revolver" evolved from its early designation of the "Colt Revolving Belt Pistol of Naval Caliber". Despite the "Navy" designation, which came to be because the original pistols had a naval scene etched on the cylinder, the revolver was chiefly purchased by civilians and military land forces.

Famous individuals who carried the Navy revolver include Wild Bill Hickok, John Henry "Doc" Holliday, Ned Kelly, Robert E. Lee and Quantrill's Raiders. The guns were so popular and reliable they continued to be used long after more modern cartridge revolvers were introduced in 1873.
